Neighborhood

The Sun Valley neighborhood, immediately west of downtown Denver across the South Platte River. The setting is a wide flat parking footprint with the Rockies visible on the western horizon and downtown skyline behind the east end zone.

What it feels like

Altitude is the defining variable for visiting teams. At a mile high, conditioning shows up by the fourth quarter, and the home crowd knows it. The bowl geometry is steep and the upper deck rides high; the view from the top rows on the west side puts the Rockies above the scoreboard.

Seating tiers

Lower bowl (100s)

Rows 1-40

Steep pitch, sightlines hold. The famous south stands behind the scoreboard end are the loudest single section in the building.

Club level (200s)

Indoor concourses, padded seats, bar service. Mid-sideline clubs are the most weather-protected seats in the bowl.

Upper bowl (300s/500s)

Rows 1-35

Steep upper deck. The 500-level rides high; the mountain view from the west side upper rows is part of the experience. The 300s mid-sideline are the best price-to-view.

Sections we'd pick

  • South stands lower bowl for crowd energy. The loudest section.
  • West side upper deck for the Rockies-and-skyline view that's unique to this venue.
  • Mid-sideline 300-level for the cleanest balance of view and price.

Sections we'd skip

  • Top rows of the 500s on the open south end during a December cold front.
  • Lowest rows of the lower bowl in the corners. Sideline depth is poor.

Arrival

Primary route
I-25 to the stadium exit, or 17th Avenue west from downtown.

Notes
On-site lots are large and well-organized. Premium close-in lots fill earliest. Outbound on I-25 can hold for 45 minutes; the light rail clears faster.

Weather and timing

Best months to attend

Sep, Oct

Toughest months

Dec, Jan

Roof

Open-air

Mile-high sun is stronger than the air temperature suggests; sunscreen in September is not optional. Late-season games can flip from mild to snow inside 24 hours, so layer for both ends of the forecast.

Food inside

Colorado regional slate: green chile, bison brats, regional sausages, and a deep Colorado craft beer rotation. Concourse lines move best in the second and fourth quarters.

Food and pre-game outside

Highland is the closest sit-down concentration, a 15-minute walk north over the river. LoDo and Union Station are a short ride east on light rail. The Sun Valley side itself has limited options on foot.

Accessibility

ADA platforms on every level. Designated drop-off at the north and south gates. Companion seats throughout. Sensory rooms on the main concourse; ask at guest services.

Worth knowing before you go

  • Bag policy: clear bag, 12 by 6 by 12 inches maximum.
  • Cashless throughout.
  • Gates open two hours before kickoff.
  • Hydrate hard before kickoff. Altitude plus sun plus stadium beer dehydrates faster than you think.
