What it feels like

Milan Puskar Stadium is one of the loudest and most passionate environments in the sport, especially at night. The crowd sings John Denver's 'Take Me Home, Country Roads' together after wins and it turns the whole bowl into a chorus; goosebumps are standard. Tailgating is a full-day, hillside affair, the Mountaineer mascot fires his musket after scores, and gold-and-blue takes over the town. The PRT people-mover getting fans to and around campus is a genuinely distinctive arrival, and the Appalachian setting with hills rising around the bowl gives it a look nowhere else has. Night games are electric and can get rowdy.

Open-air in the Appalachian hills. Early-season afternoons can be warm and humid; the valley setting brings cool, damp evenings and real cold by November, and rain and fog are common, so pack layers and rain gear for late-season games.

Food inside

Appalachian and West Virginia touches on the concourses: pepperoni rolls (the state's signature snack), bratwurst and grilled sausages, nachos and walking tacos, plus regional beer. The pepperoni roll is the local-color pick worth seeking out.
